The University of the District of Columbia The University of the District of Columbia is the only public institution of higher education in the District of Columbia. Chartered in 1974 from three other institutions of higher learning, this Historically Black College/University maintains an open admissions policy, and is the only urban land-grant institution in the nation.

UDC is located in the global, northwest community of Washington, D.C. We have a rich and successful tradition of higher education that has been in existence for over a century. Our comprehensive university offers a wide array of undergraduate, graduate, and continuing educational opportunities for our diverse student population. UDC is the nation's only urban land-grant institution and we honor this status through an open admissions policy. We are dedicated to providing educational opportunities for all who have the desire to become a part of this great institution.
