Troy University traces its origin to the Troy State Normal School, which was established on February 18, 1887, by an Act of the Alabama Legislature. Recognizing the growth of the school's programs, the State Board of Education in 1929 changed the name of the school to State Teachers College, and in 1931, the College granted its first baccalaureate degree.
Fort Benning is the largest TROY site in the region and was established in 1976. Its location is in the growing Tri-Community that consists of Fort Benning,GA, Columbus,GA, and Phenix City,AL. The Fort Benning site offers a variety of programs to the people located on Fort Benning and to those located in the surrounding areas. These programs consist of two-year and four-year degrees in the undergraduate program, a graduate program and a continuing education program.
