The mission of the University of West Los Angeles "UWLA" is to be a leader in offering legal education to men and women from diverse educational, occupational, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds, without regard to age, sexual orientation or disability - especially to those who must study part-time - so as to contribute to the democratization of the legal community.
The University of West Los Angeles and the San Fernando Valley College of Law became one as of July 1, 2002. The unification of these two outstanding educational institutions magnifies the contribution that they make to California's legal community. Today the combined institution boasts among its alumni over 80 sitting judges; the Commissioner of Real Estate for the State of California; the 2002 Los Angeles Trial Lawyer of the Year; a name partner in the largest law firm in the San Fernando Valley; a partner on the Executive Committee of one of the most prominent law firms in the city. Without UWLA, many of these people would not have had the opportunity to pursue their goals of a career in law.
