The mission of the college is as real today as it was at its founding in 1869, its aim to model civility and to teach students how to put their ideas to work. To enable students to become independent, responsible and thoughtful individuals through a program of liberal education. That education prepares them to live creatively and usefully, and to provide leadership for their society in an interdependent world.
Many of the nation's great universities, from Harvard to the University of Michigan, are learning what our liberal arts college has known all along: at the heart of a student’s education is the relationship with his or her faculty members. Students learn from faculty how to form their views, how to communicate them, how to learn from their peers and how to pursue their interests to the next level. Our faculty are partners with our students in publications, research, presentations and prizes.
