Common mistakes writers make in College essays

Nobody is perfect, and is possible to overlook some grammatical errors. Try to ask another person to proofread for errors you might well pass over, proofread is really important to finish your essay.

The most common grammatical errors are:

Put two sentences as one without use a coma, a period or a semicolon. This error is pretty common, and it seems invisible until it is read at loud.
Example:
Wrong: Mi sister tried to climb the tree I stopped her before she fell.
Right: Mi sister tried to climb the tree. I stopped her before she fell.
Inappropriate use of the commas in sentences, many people put lots of them everywhere. You just have to use the commas in a couple of cases: To separate (two parts of a compound sentence) and to set off extra information.
Example:

Maria bought new clothing, shoes, and makeup for the prom.
Ms. Gonzales, my history professor, is on vacations.
Use of vague pronouns like this, these, those and it. It is better to give the entire idea and not simplified with vague pronouns.
Example:

Wrong: Many economic problems are caused by the new governmental politics; these are the principal reason for the high percentage of poverty in the country.
Right: Many economic problems are caused by the new governmental politics; the inflation and the low employment rate are the principal reason for the high percentage of poverty in the country.
Wrong concordance between pronouns and pronoun’s antecedents, pronouns must agree with their antecedents in gender and number. Some pronouns look plural, but they are singular so try to be careful and revise your paragraphs more than once.
Example:

Wrong: Everyone gets their ticket for free at the main square.
Right: Everyone gets his/her ticket for free at the main square.
